Shih Tzus are affectionate, loyal, and love being near their people. They thrive on companionship and make amazing cuddle buddies.
Most adult Shih Tzus weigh between 8–15 lbs, making them a great fit for both houses and apartments. Despite their small size, they have bold, confident personalities.
Shih Tzus typically live 12–16 years, with proper care. Many live well into their teens, giving you years of joyful companionship.
They’re gentle and playful, making them great pets for kids, seniors, and multi-generational households. Their calm temperament also makes them excellent emotional support companions.
While Shih Tzus don’t shed like other breeds, their long coat needs regular grooming. Many owners opt for “puppy cuts” to make care easier.
Shih Tzus are intelligent, but they can have a stubborn streak—early training and consistency go a long way.
Shih Tzus are indoor dogs at heart. They enjoy short walks and playtime, but they’re happiest lounging inside with their family.
They come in many coat colors—chocolate, gold, cream, black and white, liver, and more. No two Shih Tzus are exactly alike!
